UX Writer Jobs
Apologies, last week I missed an issue for the first time. I hope you’ll forgive me, I was in the process of moving from New York to London. Some things (regularly scheduled meals, exercise, activities other than sitting on a plane) had to take a backseat. I’m sorry, but now I’m back. They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Let’s hope that’s the case.
An interesting mix of roles for you this week. A couple of good looking UX Writer jobs in France and a spread of roles across the US. I’m definitely seeing a split between what this role is called in the US vs the UK. In the US, we seem to be coalescing around ‘UX Writer’ as a distinct job category in its own right driven, in large part, by the big five (Google, Apple, Uber, Amazon, Netflix) hoovering up writer talent.
The rest of the world, apart from the UK, seems to be taking their lead from the US. I’m seeing 'UX Writer’ roles pop up in Singapore, India, Australia, France & Germany with increasing regularity. UK companies, as is their want, are being a little contrary.
I’m starting to see more 'Product Writer’ and 'Content Designer’ roles mixed in with the usual 'Content Strategist’ and 'Copywriter’ roles on this side of the pond. It may be that companies are a few months behind the US with properly designating 'UX Writer’ as a distinct discipline. It maybe they like being different. We’ll see.
As a sidenote, I’m building up a database on UX Writer roles and I’ll start to share more data as I start to make sense of it. Hold onto your seats.
There are currently 301 of you on this list. I’m too sad about England crashing out of the World Cup to make a connection other than that 301, is a posthumous album by jazz trio e.s.t..
Onwards.
USA
Storyblocks are hiring for a UX Writer in Arlington, Virginia. You’ll have two years’ experience for this one and work across the product and marketing teams. They offer a bunch of perks including “five methods” of coffee making and an “open vacation policy”. Although the last one sounds like something you suggest to save a failing marriage.
LinkedIn are looking for a UX Writer in Sunnyvale, California. They’re after a journalism or communications graduate with 5+ years’ experience to “change lives by delivering LinkedIn’s vision”. Which seems a little grand as it’s a job site. Maybe I’m changing lives too.
SSC&C Advent are recruiting for a Product Writer in their Jacksonville, Florida office. You’ll fit broadly within the category of “5-10 years of experience” and have worked with a financial product in the past. You’ll be expected to write as well as mentor junior UX writers and set a product vision. Good luck, I hope they pay you well for this one.
The Kraken Digital Asset Exchange sounds like the sort of company a micro-dosing MBA grad would come up with at Burning Man. But they’re looking for a UX Writer so I’m casting no judgement. You’ll have 4-6 years of experience and a background building financial or cryptocurrency products. Bring your own protein shakes.
Abjayon are on the lookout for a Senior UX Writer in Mountain View, California. You’ll work closely with their UX writing team in South Korea (tip: if you speak Korean you’ll be at the front of the line) and have 5-7 years of experience. If you’ve worked with wireframes and design briefs in the past then that’s even better.
OfferUp are hiring for a Senior Content Strategist / UX Writer in Bellevue, Washington. Looks like this one leans more heavily towards copywriting and marketing than straight-up UX writing. Would suit someone moving over from that world.
IDEO are after a Creative Writer for their Design for Change team. You’ll be in San Francisco. You’ll work for IDEO. Not sure this one needs a whole lot of selling.
WeWork are looking for a Writer in their New York City office. You know they’re a “serious startup” because the job description is all bold. More of a PR role this with minimal web copy requirements.
Europe
Transferwise are hiring for a UX Copywriter in London. I know we already featured this one but I’ve been using their service a lot in the last month and I’m a big fan. Sue me.
Turtl are looking for a Content Strategist and Writer in London. Looks like you’ll be a lone wolf with this one. The role sits across marketing and product and they’re looking for someone with five years of experience.
Like oysters, the ocean and cutting-edge hipsters? Then Asure Recruit have a role for you. They’re hiring for a Product Writer in Whitstable, Kent. This is more of a technical writer role and would suit someone with a programming background.
The UK Govt. are hiring for a Deputy Head of Content Design in London. Experience running large teams is a requirement here.
OpenDataSoft are hiring for a Corporate Content Writer (English Speaker) in Paris. You’ll speak English and French with 2-3 years of experience in Content Writing. Mix of marketing & product with this one.
Another one in Paris, this time it’s OpenClassrooms who are looking for UX Writers in both French and English. Some great perks with this one including a €1,000 stipend when you take over 15 days off a year. Get ye to France.
