Hello Hello.
Look at this. All bright and clean and new. I’ve moved this newsletter over to Revue and bought a domain. I mean, the domain doesn’t work yet, but still. This is getting real. As always, the “unsubscribe” button is at the bottom of this email if this is no longer relevant for you. No hard feelings.
Over the next few weeks I’ll be creating a dedicated landing page for the site with some useful links and an archive of these newsletters. Slow steps at first.
I’m building a reading list of books outlining how to get started in UX writing. These are my favourite four so far:
- Microcopy: The Complete Guide, by Kinneret Yifrah.
- How To Write Short: Word Craft for Fast Times, by Roy Peter Clark.
- Conversational Design, by Erika Hall.
- Storytelling for User Experience, by Whitney Quesenbery.
What are yours?
There are currently 312 of you on this list. The Ferrari 312 was a Formula 1 car that raced from 1966-1969, it was particularly good-looking.

USA
Opendoor are hiring for a Content Writer in San Francisco. They’re looking for someone with 5+ years of experience, the job description is rather vague but a mix of content and UX writing with this one.
Romack are after a UX Writer in Austin, Texas. Bit of a unicorn position this, 10+ years of experience with five in HTML & CSS. If I lived in Austin I’d go tubing everyday. This is also a reason I wouldn’t get hired for this job.
18F is hiring a Content Designer across a range of locations (remote, DC, SF, CHI, NY). Opportunity to reshape government services in the USA (which is not a light undertaking).
Essential have a call out for a UX Writer in Palo Alto. The job description is all over the place here. They’re looking for an “Electrical Engineer” who is also a UX Writer. Indeed.
Gusto are on the hunt for a Senior UX Writer in San Francisco. You’ll need seven years of writing experience with two as a UX Writer for this one.
Rally Health are looking for a UX Writer who’s interested in using language, design, and behavioural science to help people improve their health. Mostly a straight UX-writing position with a little marketing.
Adobe are after a Senior UX Content Strategist in the Bay Area (San Francisco, San Jose or Emeryville based on location). A blend of UX writing with content strategy on this one.
Paypal have an ad up for a Content Strategist / UX Writer based in San Jose. This leans more heavily on the content strategy side.
Europe
Content Design London have a call out for a 2 year Contact Design contract at the Law Society. £38k a year. DM them if you’re interested.
Networking People are hiring for a UX Technical Writer in London. This looks like a straight ‘technical writer’ role with 'UX’ thrown in to add a veneer of cool. Read carefully.
Kainos are on the hunt for a Content Designer in London. I was on their website for five minutes before I figured out what they did. It’s always a red-flag to me when job descriptions aren’t properly formatted. Just saying.
The BBC are looking for a Senior UX Writer in Salford. This looks similar to one they had up a few weeks ago. Get back involved!
IXDS are recruiting for a Technical / UI Writer in Munich. Fluency in German and English required, you’ll be working a 4-day work week with this one. How progressive.
Around the World
ANZ are hiring for a UX Writer in Melbourne. Yes, they’re a bank but they’re written one of the best job descriptions I’ve ever seen.
Alibaba are hiring for a Senior Content Strategist in Hangzhou, China. A unique product opportunity with millions of users with this one, it’ll be working on AliExpress. Spoken Mandarin is a bonus.
Interesting
Samuel Stenberg looks at how the brain impacts UX writing. A good read about the differences between a UX Writer and a copywriter. The Evasion-English dictionary reveals those throwaway words by which “we reveal what we mean, no matter how hard we try not to.” Shoulda, woulda, coulda.
